You might not be guaranteed a position by using a recruiter yet if you have a particular skill set, it can help you land a job you have always wanted.
It is though, more important to be straight and up forward with a recruiter when submitting your details. As they support a large part of the Australia job market, they do, and they will check every aspect of your CV.
Recruiters have a reputation to uphold, and if they place someone who cannot do as they say or is found to have lied, it shows poorly against their skills as a company.
There are many Do’s and Don’ts when you submit your details to a recruiter. Here are listed the more common ones.
Dress to Impress
Overall impressions matter no matter how good your CV. The recruiter might not be the outright employer yet they expect you to look the part. Formal or smart-casual at the very least is required when you meet a recruiter. It also shows you put in that extra effort to stand out in a competitive job market.
Arriving On Time
This goes without saying, and if you are unable to arrive on-time to a recruiter, how will they think you can cope with an interview? Arriving too early also frowns upon a little. If you are an hour too early, things can feel a bit awkward. The ideal time is around 10-15 minutes to arrive.
Keep a Record of Your Job Search
If you have recorded whom you have sent your best covering letter and CV to already it can save the recruiter much time and wasted effort. It is pointless them contacting the same companies you have done so already.
It also shows that you are organised and engaged in your job hunting rather than relying on the recruiter doing all the leg-work.
Research and Read
What is on your CV should be truthful. A recruiter will question pretty much everything, so you need to know every detail you have listed.
The more comfortable you can explain yourself when asked about your CV the better the impression you set. You should also try and answer in one or two sentences without drawing your explanation out.

Do Not Remove Your Address
Rather than removing your address from your CV or covering letter, it is better to be a little creative. If you feel the area you live will prevent you from obtaining a position in the city, you can just add “Based in Wollongong and looking to relocate to Sydney.” The more you tell a recruiter, the better.
A recruiter will have up to an hour to get to know where you have come from and what you can offer an employer. You should not be over flexible saying you will do whatever or work anywhere.
Like the fact, you need to make sure you have heard and understood the questions asked. Your answer might be different to what the recruiter wants to hear so focus on answering what they have asked.
Don’t Hide Mistakes
Many individuals have made mistakes in their career, and this can lead them to have these spaces on their CV.
A recruiter needs a level of trust with you as you do with them. They are representing you, so if you give them the best version of yourself, they can serve you in the best possible way, warts and all.
If you plan on going on holiday, make sure you let your recruiter know. They will appear incompetent if they are lining up interviews and you are not around to attend them.
